INCREASED MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS
12 February 2023
At the Annual General Meeting in October 2022, it was unanimously agreed that the annual subscription for membership of the Derbyshire Record Society should increase, having been held at the same level for many years.
The new rates are displayed on the Membership Page. Please contact your bank to amend your standing order from 1 April 2023.If you currently pay your subscription in arrears in September it would be very helpful for our Treasurer if you could also amend the date of your standing order to 6 April rather than 1 September.
It was also agreed at the Annual General Meeting that the rate for new Life membership would be increased. However, for 2023 only, all current members of the Society can pay for Life Membership at the previous rate. If you would prefer to have Life membership rather than pay annually, please contact the Treasurer to arrange to pay by bank transfer, credit card or cheque.

CURRENT PUBLICATION – The Derbyshire Musters of 1638–9, Part 1
5 August 2021
Part 1 now available
Order here: Muster Book Part 1
Between the early sixteenth century and the mid seventeenth the Privy Council instructed local officials in each county to hold regular musters of able-bodied men who could be called upon to defend the kingdom in time of war. Men from every town and village had to assemble, usually in the early autumn, at a specified meeting place and show that they possessed suitable arms and armour. Gentry families had to provide horsemen. The musters were ordered by the lord lieutenant, summoned by the deputy lieutenants, and organised locally by the high constable of each hundred. This book, containing some 17,300 names, survives among the records of the State Paper Office. It provides a uniquely full record of the inhabitants of every community in Derbyshire on the eve of the Civil War. In this edition, the text of the 1638 muster book is printed in full, alongside a shorter roll of 1639 and some ancillary documents. All are fully indexed by person and place and prefaced by a detailed introduction. For ease of handling, the introduction and indexes form one volume and the texts another.Change of Officers
