This volume makes available a complete record of baptisms, marriages and burials at St Mary's, Sutton Scarsdale, from the commencement of the earliest surviving register down to the introduction of civil birth and death registration in 1837. Although the parish was largely rural until the end of the eighteenth century and Sutton remains so today, the register throws light on the growth of population at Duckmanton at the beginning of the nineteenth century, following the opening of the Adelphi ironworks, with its associated collieries and mines.
